Economic Impact #2 of the Alps on Switzerland: Industries

Another economic impact of the Alps on Switzerland is the amount of industries that were formed because of the geographical location. Switzerland is famous for their dairy cows and high-altitude farms. Cow farming has been around for hundreds of years, with the huge amount of secluded land and the ideal grazing that is found high in the mountains being perfect for cattle. And cattle are very important to a lot of industries that are huge in Switzerland. The country is world famous for cheeses and chocolates, and the main ingredient for both is milk. Cheeses such as Raclette and Emmental (known in the US as Swiss cheese) and chocolate brands such as Milka, Lindt, and Toblerone all originated from Switzerland. The agriculture industry also “produces the majority of the food consumed in Switzerland”, and the land used for the agricultural sector is about half of the surface area of the country (Sectors; Agriculture).
